Hemroid Remedies and Hemroid Cures

Not everything that looks like a Hemroid, feels like a hemorrhoid really is one. Hemroid Treatments or Haemorrhoids cures will not work on some things because they are not Hemroids. There are various ways of saying hemorrhoids but are all simply a different way to name the swelling and inflammation of veins in the rectum and anus. The term hemorrhoids is an anatomical term that refers to the little cushions of tissue which are filled with blood vessels and spongy material located at the junction of the rectum and the anus". The term is commonly used to talk about the abnormal or pulled out of place tissue that we see or is bleeding internally. Perianal hematomas are occasionally misdiagnosed and mislabeled as hemorrhoids, when in fact they have different causes and treatments.

The hemorrhoids that are referred to as External hemorrhoids are those that form on the end of the anal canal closest to the outside. They are sometimes painful, because of the swelling and irritation as well as sometimes itching, but that is more commonly due to skin irritation.

When a vein ruptures or a blood clot develops, the hemorrhoid becomes a thrombosed hemorrhoid and is more common with External Hemroids.

Internal hemorrhoids are those that start deeper inside the rectum. Since this area lacks the nerves with the pain receptors they feel only the pressure of a bowel movement, internal hemorrhoids are usually not painful and most of us are not aware that they have them. Internal hemorrhoids, however, may bleed when irritated.

If you leave internal Hemroids untreated they can lead to two severe forms of hemorrhoids which are called prolapsed and strangulated hemorrhoids.

Prolapsed hemorrhoids are simply internal hemorrhoids where the tissues holding them in place are so distended that they are pushed outside the anus.

If the sphincter muscle which controls a bowel movement begins to spasm and traps a prolapsed hemorrhoid (internal Hemroid that is pushed out the anus) outside the anal opening, the supply of blood is cut off, and the hemorrhoid becomes a strangulated hemorrhoid.

The most common grading lists the hemorrhoids but the degree of prolapse.

The scale of grading of Internal Hemorrhoids from one to four is as follows least severe to most severe.

1. The hemorrhoids are not prolapsed (exit the anus).

2. The hemorrhoids prolapse (exit the anus) with a bowel movement but spontaneously reduce.

3. The hemorrhoids prolapse with a bowel movement, but need to be pushed back into place.

4. The hemorrhoids continue to be prolapsed and cannot be pushed back in.

Symptoms

There are many other things that have the same symptoms as Hemroids but are in reality fissures, fistulae, abscessed, anal melanoma or just irritation and itching.

In general Hemroids are not dangerous and in most cases will go away if the cause for them is removed in a few days. Those that do not are the ones that become painful and may require medical treatment.

Many people have hemorrhoids but not all experience symptoms. The most common symptom is bright red blood covering the feces, or on toilet paper, internal hemorrhoids may protrude through the anus and be visible. Once outside the body it can become irritated and painful. This is known as a protruding hemorrhoid.

Some of the symptoms of external hemorrhoids include painful swelling and sometimes a hard lump around the anus which results when a blood clot forms. When that happens it is known as a thrombosed external hemorrhoid.

Some of the obvious causes of the painful hemorrhoids are excessive straining, rubbing, or cleaning around the anus can cause irritation which promotes bleeding and/or itching. Sitting on the toilet for long periods can also trigger the irritation of Hemroids which may produce a vicious circle of symptoms. There is also an anal mucus, produced by the dentate line may also cause irritation when it drains. Excessive straining during bowel movements because of constipation or diarrhea can also lead to hemorrhoids. It is therefore a common problem because of constipation caused by water retention in women experiencing premenstrual syndrome or menstruation.

Poor muscle tone, poor posture, or obesity can be a factor by increasing rectal vein pressure which can produce the painful Hemroids.

Hemroids often accompany pregnancy and increase the strain during bowel movements, so hemorrhoids often occur with pregnancy.

Not drinking enough liquid and dehydration can cause a hard stools, and chronic constipation. The lack of sufficient Vitamin E is also a common cause. Eating spicy foods does not cause hemorrhoids, but the spicy foods may aggravate them.

Things you can do for Prevention

The first line of prevention for hemorrhoids should include drinking more fluids, eating more dietary fiber (such as fruits, vegetables and cereals high in fiber), exercising, and practicing better posture. Reducing bowel movement strain because of hard stools and the time you are sitting on the toilet makes a difference. Even wearing tight clothing or underwear can contribute to irritation in the region and promote hemorrhoid development.

The easiest way to prevent hemorrhoids is to keep stools so soft they pass through easily, and decrease the pressure and straining. A bowel movement should be done as soon as possible after the urge occurs. Good exercise, which includes walking, and increasing fiber in the diet will help reduce constipation and straining producing stools that are softer and easier to pass.

Women when noticing they have painful stools around the time of menstruation would benefit by taking extra dietary fiber and fluids a couple days before that time.

Washing the anus with cool water and soap may reduce the swelling and increase blood supply for quicker healing and may remove irritating fluid which can increase fissures and itching.

A good rule of thumb is to eat a lot of fiber especially if you are prone to Hemroids. People who do not get a sufficient supply of dietary fiber of at least 20 to 25 grams daily are more likely to have problems. Even small changes in a person's daily diet will help tremendously in both prevention and treatment of hemorrhoids.

Use of squat toilets

In poorer countries where most people simply squat for bowel movements, hemorrhoids are much less frequent. Dr. Berko Sikirov published a study in 1987 tested his theory that squat toilets would benefit Hemorrhoid sufferers. Eighteen of the 20 patients were completely relieved of their symptoms both pain and bleeding without any recurrence, even 30 months after completion of the study. So if you pretend you are in a gas station rest room and just squat instead of sitting down then it is likely you will be able to help yourself. This study used a very small number of people, the results, while highly suggestive, cannot be assumed to provide a firm conclusion. But if you are hurting and want something you can try tonight it would be worthwhile.

There has never been a follow-up study. The American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons is silent regarding the therapeutic value of squatting. Doctors and surgeons or pharmaceutical companies are not interested in free ways to help you so there was no further work done on it.

Treatments

Some easy home treatments include.

Hydrotherapy using a bathtub or extend-able shower head. Especially especialy with external hemorrhoids of small size, the condition can be improved with warm bath causing the vessels around the rectal region to be relaxed.

Cold compress or ice

Topical analgesic (pain reliever), such as over the counter preparations

Pain reliever to ease the pain

Hydrocortisone. Helps but may weaken the skin and may contribute to further flare-ups.

Topical vasoconstrictor such as phenylephrine.

Moisturizer. To keep it soft

Astringents, such as witch hazel can help shrink it.

Rubber band ligation, is a medical procedure where elastic bands are stretched over an internal hemorrhoid to cut off its blood supply. Within a few days, the shrunken hemorrhoid is removed during normal bowel movement.

Hemorrhoidolysis, desiccation of the hemorrhoid by electrical current.

Cryosurgery uses the frozen tip of a cryoprobe to destroy the hemorrhoid tissues. Rarely used anymore because of side effects.

Hemorrhoidectomy, which is a surgical excision of the hemorrhoid, is often now recommended only for severe (grade IV) hemorrhoids. Because it has possible incontinence issues later in life and many patients complain that pain during recovery is severe.

Transanal Hemorrhoidal Dearterialization (THD-HP) which is a much less invasive treatment for hemorrhoids and hemorrhoidal prolapse. It uses ultrasound to accurately locate the arterial blood inflow. With simple suture, these arteries are “tied off” and the prolapsed tissue is sutured back to its normal position with very little pain.

Natural treatments

Eating good meals with fiber-rich diets, and drinking lots of water, will help to create a much softer stool that is easier to pass, and lessens the irritation of existing hemorrhoids.

Try using the squatting position for bowel movements.

There are many dietary supplements can help treat and prevent many complications of hemorrhoids, and natural botanicals such as Horse-chestnut, and bioflavonoids can be an effective addition to hemorrhoid treatment.

Others are Butcher's Broom extract, or Ruscus aculeatus, which contains ruscogenins which have both anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictor effects to help tighten and strengthen veins. Butcher's Broom has been used to treat venous problems including hemorrhoids and varicose veins for a long time.

Horse-chestnut extract also called Aesculus hippocastanum, which contains an anti-inflammatory, anti-edema, and venotonic actions to strengthen the veins. Horse chestnut improves the tone in vein walls, which strengthens the support structure of the vein.
